About Us

Jan graduated from Cook College with a Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Science.  Jan’s first job was as a Breeding Farm Assistant at Guiding Eyes for the Blind in Yorktown Heights, New York.  Here she learned a great deal about breeding dogs, puppy care and basic obedience training.  After leaving Guiding Eyes, Jan worked as a Laboratory Technician at Exxon for 13 years.  During this time she continued to train her own dogs, earning CD titles with three of them.  She also learned some tracking training and began Search & Rescue training with two of her dogs.  She and her husband moved to Independence Township in 1983, bringing with them their dogs and horses.  Throughout the years they have owned dogs, cats, horses, sheep, a goat, many chickens, parrots, rabbits, ducks, anoles and a few cattle.  Jan has also worked as an Animal Care Technician caring for various other animals such as pigs and monkeys.  Between pet care assignments, Jan tutors students in Biology & Chemistry at Centenary College.

Jan is dedicated to providing her clients with the best service possible.  She has completed the training course offered by Pet Sitters International and passed their test to become an Accredited PSI Pet Sitter.  Jan, as well as the other team members, is certified in Pet Tech First Aid & CPR.

Sarah resides in Flanders and has been walking dogs with HPTC since February 2007.  Koda, Bentley, Alli, Jack, Zoe, Sam, Jake and Maddie all love their fun and energetic walks with Sarah.  While her twins are in school, Sarah enjoys being outdoors with the dogs.  Sarah is an experienced dog, cat and horse owner and also helps with our cat and horse clients in the Long Valley and Flanders areas.  Sarah is Pet Tech First Aid & CPR certified.  She enjoys her free time with her own horse at an occasional weekend show.

Sharon joined the HPTC team in October 2007.  A resident of Great Meadows, she cares for pets in that area as well as in Hackettstown.  The pets are all very comfortable with Sharon’s kind and gentle manner, and their owners are pleased that she is very dependable and available when needed.  Sharon is Pet Tech First Aid & CPR certified.

Leslie began using HPTC’s dog walking services for her Aussie, Joe, in 2007.  During a brief period of unemployment in mid-2008, she helped out at HPTC as a pet sitter through the busy summer season.  Although she is working full time again, Leslie still helps with many evening and weekend pet sitting assignments.  She loves the cats and dogs, and it’s easy to see that they enjoy her company, too.  Leslie is also Pet Tech First Aid & CPR certified.  Leslie enjoys Agility training with Joe in her free time.

Lauren lives in Long Valley with her husband, 2 daughters and their two  rescued Newfoundlands.  She has been with HPTC since 2009 and is a fantastic addition to our team of dog walkers.  With many years of pet owning experience, Lauren is a natural animal lover and it shows.   She is also Pet Tech First Aid & CPR certified.  Having formerly worked in the computer industry as a Unix   Support Engineer, she combined her computer knowledge with her love of dogs to start, a web site for everything Newfie!
